Bamboo has a deep meaning in Chinese culture. It is a symbol of strength, longevity, beauty and grace. Bamboo painting is quite difficult to master because it uses the technique of Chinese calligraphy, combining several brush strokes commonly found in Chinese characters.
The artist has to pay special attention to the balance of the composition because the blank area of the paper represents yin while the brush strokes signify yang.
